450 years before Jesus, Isaiah 53 describes the death of the Lord's Servant on behalf of the people.  He died for our sins - a transfer, a substitution.  This is the message of Passover, the Last Supper, and Communion: the Lamb of God died for us and for our salvation.  He took our sins upon himself, so that we might have his righteousness.
